Emily Barnett (she/they) is an English flautist and a founding member of Garúa Tango Club. Raised in South East London, Emily grew up surrounded by a wide variety of musical genres.

Initially studying the cello and jazz flute, she eventually fell in love with the classical flute through youth orchestra initiatives such as NYO Inspire and the South London Youth Orchestra.

Under the guidance of Ian Mullin, she was accepted into the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland to study under Katherine Bryan and Helen Brew. Throughout her degree she has been keen to push the boundaries of what it means to be a classical musician, often defying restrictions to play within a singular genre or style. Whilst based in Scotland, she has performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, and the Arena Loire Trélazé.

She hopes to continue to explore the ways classically trained musicians can perform out-with tradition, and interact with multi-disciplinary arts to create a sense of community and hope.
